Honestly, I have come to have high standards for all the Minnesota Opera performances I see because of their awesome artistic team. They present cohesive stories that are visually ambitious and musically stunning & beautiful. It is hard to get bored and in fact I find all of the elements to be like a big artistic buffet that give my attention lots to choose from! In Figaro there are massive scenery pieces decorated with a family tree, proper for the theme of marriage, that twisted around to form a multitude of spaces. The lighting is so interesting because they played with shadow in many scenes, including parts where the audience could watch the singers silhouettes perform! Very cool. AND my head kept bouncing between the English subtitles, the artists on stage, and the conductor. I would experience it again in a second! I am always a fan of new work, but now I kind of understand why some classics stick around: I didn’t want it to end!
