Social media has become a platform for greatness if you know how to harness it. It takes a unique and creative approach (which most of you already naturally have) specifically designed for each platform, account, and its audience.
So that’s great and all. What, exactly, should I do?
Anyone remember that old saying of “think outside the box to be more creative”? I’m telling you to get back in the box! Seriously. Crawl back into that tight space and start thinking like everyone else does just for a second here. If you’ve worked in advertising, you’ll already know that your main aim (aside from being innovative, exciting and new) is to make the viewer feel comfortable. And that’s it, that’s the big digital marketing secret that all social media experts have hacked and made their primary go-to consideration when brainstorming content for their target audience.
I’ve got them eating from the palm of my hand–now what?
You’ve got your audience’s attention; you want to close the deal. How do you go about making it happen? Provide enough information that they never have to search for it. Not providing the simple information that a reader needs to make a decision to try you out is a common mistake that I see on websites and ticketing pages. Conversion rates are often based less on information and more on user experience. UX (user experience) is one of the primary reasons viewers go for the deal, or don’t go for the deal. Concentrate on making your user experience as native to your audience as you can possibly get it.
So you’re saying being a social media marketing expert is all about socializing and relationship building?
Exactly! Get to know your audience on a personal level and you’ll know exactly what they’re looking for. Selling something to someone who already needs what you’re offering is a cinch. The [exciting] challenge for you is to figure out what they need, when they need it, and how you can adapt your offer to their needs.
