If you've been to the Minnesota Opera before you may not be surprised to know that the artistic talent was stunning. The singers and musicians were fully committed to the power and respect this subject material deserves. The sets were impressive. And the lights and projections transported the audience to death row, which was often an emotional ordeal. This opera explores the subject of capital punishment without being preachy. The emotional tension of push and pull of seeking vengeance and punishment versus forgiveness was palpable in the words (all English, by the way) and in the music.
